Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and resourceful Employment and Housing Specialist to support families and older youth with avoiding homelessness, within Greater Mondawmin. This role is crucial for helping young adults who are transitioning to independent living by securing stable employment and housing. The Specialist will work closely with youth aging out of foster care, at-risk populations, or those facing homelessness, providing individualized case management to help them navigate barriers and achieve long-term self-sufficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
- Career Development:
- Assist participants in identifying career goals and developing individualized employment plans.
- Provide job-readiness workshops, including resume building, interview preparation, and professional skills development.
- Build partnerships with local employers and industries to create job placement and internship opportunities for youth.
- Connect participants with job fairs, apprenticeships, and training programs specific to the region's job market.
- Housing Assistance:
- Support participants in identifying, securing, and maintaining safe, affordable housing.
- Develop relationships with landlords, property management companies, and housing authorities to expand housing options.
- Assist youth in understanding and managing rental agreements, housing applications, and other housing-related processes.
- Provide crisis intervention and advocacy when clients face housing instability or eviction.
- Community Engagement and Resources:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local housing and employment trends, programs, and resources.
- Coordinate with community school coordinators, service providers, mental health agencies, and other relevant organizations to ensure holistic support.
- Organize workshops or seminars focused on financial literacy, housing rights, tenant responsibilities, and career development.
- Case Management:
- Manage a caseload of 30 clients, providing individualized support to help them successfully transition out of the program.
- Conduct intake assessments, develop individualized service plans, and monitor client progress aligned with program objectives and best practices.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation on client interactions, goals, and outcomes.
- Provide ongoing support and case management to ensure clients sustain employment and housing over time.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or a related field preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience working with youth, particularly those in foster care, homeless youth, or at-risk populations.
- Familiarity with local job markets, housing policies, and available community resources within the geographic area.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and youth development principles.
- Excellent communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Knowledge of housing programs, Section 8, or other housing subsidies.
- Bilingual proficiency (salary differential provided) a plus!
Salary: $23.08/hr
